Mets on Signing Spree; adds Vladimir Miguel Guerrero to their list of signees

The Mets swiftly entered the international signing scene on Monday, capturing attention not just for the caliber of prospects or their potential skills, but for a familiar name – Guerrero.

Vladimir Miguel Guerrero, the half-brother of Blue Jays All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., has agreed to a $117,000 signing bonus with the Mets. This move adds him to a highly regarded signing class, featuring Yovanny Rodriguez, MLB Pipeline’s No. 6 international prospect, and others.

Similar to Vlad Jr.’s trajectory as an international prospect in 2015, Vladi Miguel is seen as a potential long-term option for first base or left field, with his bat being the standout tool. While not initially viewed as a top-tier prospect like Vlad Jr., the 17-year-old from the Dominican Republic has garnered praise for his commitment to conditioning for the demands of professional baseball.

International players can sign with Major League teams between Jan. 15 and Dec. 15 annually. Eligibility criteria include turning 16 before signing and being 17 before Sept. 1 the following year. In the current signing period, players born between Sept. 1, 2006, and Aug. 31, 2007, are eligible.

Vladi Miguel joins the Mets, following the trend of younger siblings of big leaguers in the organization. Notably, Luisangel Acuña, Ronald Acuña Jr.’s younger brother, was part of the Max Scherzer deal last July and ranks as the No. 38 overall prospect. Additionally, Vladi Miguel is the latest member of the Guerrero family to embark on a professional baseball career, following outfielder Pablo Guerrero’s deal with the Rangers exactly a year ago.
