Farewell and Well Wishes: Lewis Warrington Ends Plymouth Argyle Loan Due to Injury
Midfielder Lewis Warrington has expressed his best wishes to everyone at Plymouth Argyle following the premature conclusion of his loan stint from Everton. The 21-year-old sustained an ankle injury during training with the Pilgrims last month, ruling him out of action beyond the January transfer window. Consequently, an agreement has been reached between both clubs that he will not return to Home Park when he regains fitness.
Warrington, who had promising prospects after joining Argyle from Everton in late July, played a limited role, making only three starts and one substitute appearance. Despite his previous successful stint with Fleetwood Town in League One, the fierce competition for places in central midfield, along with Jordan Houghton’s standout performances, restricted Warrington’s involvement, often leaving him out of the matchday squad.
Responding to Argyle’s announcement of his loan recall on their official social media account, Warrington conveyed his gratitude, stating, “A good club filled with even better people. Despite not getting the chance to prove myself on the field, I have learnt valuable lessons that I will carry with me throughout my career. Wishing everyone at the club nothing but success. Now time to focus on getting myself right and ending the season strong.”
Argyle’s director of football, Neil Dewsnip, explained the decision, citing Warrington’s injury and the mutual agreement that it was in his best interest to return to Everton for recovery and seek further playing opportunities.
Warrington becomes the fifth player to depart from Argyle this month, joining the ranks of loan signings Finn Azaz, Luke Cundle, and Kaine Kesler-Hayden.
