Tennessee Men’s Basketball Continues Impressive Streak in Top Rankings
The University of Tennessee men’s basketball team has secured a position in the top eight of both major polls for the fourth consecutive week.
In this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Tennessee (12-4, 2-1 SEC) holds the sixth spot, while in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, they are positioned at seventh, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Volunteers have now maintained a presence in 49 consecutive AP Poll releases, surpassing the previous program record by 12 weeks. They have consistently secured a spot in the top 10 for 22 of those weeks. This ongoing four-week top-10 streak is tied for the ninth-longest in program history and marks the second time in the 2023-24 season that the team has achieved this feat. Additionally, the 49-week streak is currently the third-longest active streak in the country, trailing only Houston (75) and Kansas (54), with Arizona (47) being the only other team with a streak of 40 or more weeks.
Despite splitting a pair of SEC road games last week, with a defeat against Mississippi State and a victory against Georgia, Tennessee remains a dominant force.
Throughout the season, Tennessee consistently holds the highest ranking in the SEC, with other conference teams like No. 8/10 Kentucky, No. 13/11 Auburn, and No. 22/21 Ole Miss also securing positions in the top 25. Additionally, Alabama received votes in both polls, while Mississippi State and South Carolina earned points in the AP Poll, and Florida did so in the Coaches Poll.
Looking ahead, Tennessee is set to continue SEC competition on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Florida at Food City Center, with the game broadcast live on ESPN.
