‘Story is Far from Over’: Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach Chris Holtmann says, despite a three-game losing streak

The Ohio State Buckeyes continued their recent string of losses on Monday, experiencing a 73-65 defeat in an away game against the Michigan Wolverines.

Having faced defeats in their last three games, the atmosphere among fans is currently one of the lowest points this season. Despite this, Coach Chris Holtmann urged patience from the media and fans, expressing confidence that the team would soon return to winning ways.

Holtmann stated, “You’ll witness it. Right now, you can certainly highlight a three-game losing streak. But our journey is far from complete. You’ll see the potential of this group. Not many may sense it at this moment, but I certainly do. Our staff does, and many guys in the locker room do.”

Ohio State secured a victory on January 3 against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at their home court but has faced consecutive losses since then. This includes the recent game against the Wolverines, along with matches against the Indiana Hoosiers and the then-No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers.

Bruce Thornton, the Buckeyes’ captain and leading scorer, remained optimistic after the Michigan loss. The sophomore guard emphasized to reporters that there is still a significant amount of conference basketball to be played in the season.

“We’re just two teams competing at the end of the day, and we fell short today,” said Thornton. “Even though we lost, we’ve got to keep our heads up high. We’ve got 14 more Big Ten games.”

Ohio State will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Penn State Nittany Lions at Value City Arena. The seventh Big Ten game for the Buckeyes is set to tip off at noon on the Big Ten Network.
