Djokovic Achieves Milestone: Equals Federer’s Record with 58th Grand Slam Quarter-Final in Melbourne

Novak Djokovic matched Roger Federer’s achievement by advancing to his 58th Grand Slam quarter-final, a feat he accomplished by overwhelming Adrian Mannarino with a dominant performance at the Australian Open. The world No. 1 flirted with the possibility of securing a ‘triple bagel’ (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) victory when he claimed the first 13 games against Mannarino.

Although Mannarino managed to secure his first game in the second set, Djokovic, participating in his 73rd major tournament, eventually secured a resounding 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 triumph. Djokovic’s impressive run comes after initially battling illness and enduring two lengthy matches in the early stages of the tournament.

The Serbian maestro, displaying ominous form, commented on the match, stating, “The best sets I’ve played in a while. I really wanted to lose that game in the third set because the tension was building up so much in the stadium. I needed to get that out of the way and refocus on what I needed to do to finish the match.”

While Djokovic expressed occasional frustration with the crowd, he showcased exceptional serving, hitting 31 winners, and sealed victory in just one hour and 44 minutes. With this win, Djokovic secured his place in the quarter-finals for the 14th time, a record he shares with Rafael Nadal and John Newcombe.
