Ohio State Lands Top-Ranked Transfer QB Julian Sayin from Alabama
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to make notable additions through the transfer portal, with their latest acquisition being quarterback Julian Sayin. Sayin, formerly with the Alabama Crimson Tide, marks the third player Ohio State has secured from Alabama via the portal, following offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin and defensive back Caleb Downs. Downs, considered the top-ranked player in the transfer portal by various sources, adds further depth to Ohio State’s roster.
A former five-star recruit, Sayin was a significant prospect in Alabama’s recruiting pipeline, having verbally committed to the Crimson Tide on November 2, 2022. He officially signed his national letter of intent in December 2023, but following the coaching change at Alabama with Nick Saban’s retirement and the arrival of Kalen DeBoer, Sayin has opted to transfer to Ohio State.
Speculation within the Crimson Tide media suggests that Sayin’s decision to transfer is directly linked to Saban’s departure. Now part of Ohio State, Sayin becomes the fifth quarterback in the team’s roster, vying for the starting position in the upcoming year. While Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard is considered the frontrunner, underclassmen Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, and Air Noland are poised to compete vigorously for the role. Among these contenders, Sayin, with the least experience, will need to demonstrate his efforts during preseason camp and potentially in the 2024 Spring Game to enhance his chances of securing the starting position.
