Phillies Reach Agreement with Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher Kolby Allard

The Philadelphia Phillies have officially sealed a deal with a left-handed pitcher in the ongoing offseason.

Pitching has been a focal point of the Philadelphia Phillies’ offseason this year.

The team announced the acquisition of Kolby Allard, a left-handed pitcher with previous stints with the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers, and they have added him to their 40-man roster.

Allard, drafted 14th overall in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Braves, quickly rose as one of their top prospects, peaking at No. 5 in their farm system in 2016. Injuries affected his status, causing him to drop out of the Top 10 in 2019, yet he maintained a career minor league ERA of 3.41 over 108 starts.

Making his Major League debut with Atlanta in 2018, Allard was traded to the Rangers in June 2019. Despite starting 34 of the 62 games he appeared in with Texas, he struggled with an ERA of 5.85 across 224 2/3 innings pitched.

Returning to the Braves in November 2022, Allard’s 2023 season was limited to four games due to injuries. The Phillies are taking a chance on the former first-round talent, aiming to revitalize his career within their organization.
