19 Days at Ohio: Ohio State University Newly Signed Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach Leaving for Boston College Coaching Opportunity

Bill O’Brien’s potential tenure as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach may be cut short as reports from the Boston Herald indicate that Boston College is close to finalizing a contract with O’Brien to become their head coach. This move would see him replacing Jeff Hafley, the former Ohio State defensive coordinator who left for the Green Bay Packers.

ESPN notes that Boston College has scheduled two rounds of in-person interviews early this week, with a decision expected by the weekend.

O’Brien, a Boston native, has personal ties to the area, including his son Jack’s medical treatment for lissencephaly. Despite Ohio State’s efforts to bring in O’Brien for his experience, it seems a head coaching opportunity with Boston College may alter his course.

O’Brien, previously the head coach at Penn State and the Houston Texans, served as offensive coordinator at Alabama after his tenure with the Texans before signing with Ohio.
