Elite Tennessee Vols assistant coach Jerry Mack on verge of landing NFL job according to Sources
Jerry Mack, a native of Volunteer State and a former head coach who secured conference championships, is set to depart from the University of Tennessee.
Sources have informed FootballScoop that Mack, initially brought on by Josh Heupel three years ago at Tennessee, is anticipated to leave the college football program for a position in the NFL. According to insiders, Mack is in the process of finalizing an agreement to join the coaching staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars, working under head coach Doug Pederson and offensive coordinator Press Taylor.
While the deal is not yet finalized, sources with direct knowledge have indicated that there is positive momentum and that an agreement could be reached as early as Friday night, possibly no later than Saturday. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports was the first to report Mack as a top target for the Jaguars.
In the 2023 season, Mack played a crucial role as Tennessee’s running backs collectively amassed over 2,000 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. His coaching also played a part in securing key recruits, such as Dylan Sampson in the 2022 class. The success of the Tennessee backfield in 2023 earned Mack the title of Our Coaching Network’s 2023 SEC Running Backs Coach of the Year.
Before joining Tennessee, Mack served as an offensive coordinator and associate head coach at Rice for four years. His coaching career includes an impressive stint as the head coach at North Carolina Central, where he won three MEAC championships in just four seasons. A Memphis native, Mack has also coached at the University of Memphis, gaining experience in FCS and junior college settings throughout his coaching journey.
