Cincinnati Bengals Offensive Coordinator Brian Callahan Becomes the Head Coach of Tennessee Titans
On Wednesday, the Titans and Brian Callahan officially reached an agreement on a contract, making him the team’s new coach. Callahan, formerly the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, is set to be introduced at a press conference on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.
Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk expressed excitement about the franchise’s new phase, stating, “This is an exciting time for our franchise, and we’re thrilled to have Brian as our head coach.” She highlighted the thorough candidate search, with Callahan standing out as the ideal leader for the football team.
Callahan, who recently completed his 14th NFL season, has served as the offensive coordinator for the Bengals since 2019. Notably, he played a crucial role in quarterback Joe Burrow’s development during his time in Cincinnati. The Titans conducted an extensive interview process, considering ten candidates after parting ways with Mike Vrabel. Callahan, having had a virtual interview on January 12 and an in-person interview on Monday, emerged as one of the two candidates receiving a second interview and one of the three candidates interviewed in person.
Despite being a sought-after candidate in previous head coaching searches, Callahan found the right fit with the Titans. He brings a wealth of coaching experience, having started as a coaching assistant with the Broncos in 2010. He later worked with quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Derek Carr, contributing to their individual successes.
Callahan’s longest coaching stretch was with the Bengals, where he experienced notable achievements, including two AFC North titles, two AFC Championship appearances, and a Super Bowl berth. Under his guidance, the Bengals’ offense ranked in the top 10 in various categories over the past three seasons, showcasing his impact.
